Arcades du Cinquantenaire- Part of the Parc du Cinquantenaire (Park of the 50th Anniversary), begun in 1880 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Belgian independence, the Arcades (arches) weren't built until 1905. Because the Belgian government was reluctant to fund the arch, King Leopold paid for it with his own money and money from the Congo Free State.
